Every Equinox is an opportunity to reflect on balance. The importance of darkness and light, vulnerability and strength, and so forth. In my disdain for linear forms and polarities I have developed, over the years, a triadic view of balance. Something I often reflect on during the Vernal Equinox.
The triadic aspect is quintessential here. Imagine a base comprised of two complimenting aspects located on each point. Imagine how they merge their energies to create a strong foundation as well as a defined focal, or goal point. The balanced base and the crowning point. This crowning point represents goal, achievement, transcendence, birth and so on.
Ultimately the balancing of the two points in conjunction with the goal leads to the crowning of true power.
In order to achieve the crowning points one must work to establish strong foundations of complimenting forces, and direct them proportionately. Many traditions encourage concepts of extreme polarity. The problem with polarity and linear concepts is that they leave the fulcrum fragile and susceptible to the events and opportunities that life brings us. A little more weight or lifting on either side can throw spiritual balance and power off.
Even in physics the triangle is the strongest shape when energy is forced down on one point it spreads out down to the other two points and out. Metaphysically one can see how this is advantages to attacks or obstacles. Some argue about the Arch being stronger.
Let us contemplate this momentarily. First the arch is comprised of a linear form curved around three points. Ultimately it copies the strength of the triangle. Many arches use a key stone, but even those that don't still have a crown. The crown distributes weight down to the two impost. These are the three points of energy that reveal the triadic strength.
In a way, this shows how one can easily adapt from linear concept and develop a triadic concept that will raise, hold, and bare more power. With this triadic concept we are able to harness and benefit from both receiving and giving forces. Much like the upward and downward forces that arches and triangles manage in architecture.
There are two important steps. First we must identify complimenting forces and learn to accept and utilize them both. Often these forces are seen as opposites. However,to say oppose reflects more an annulling of the energies when combined, or even incompatibility. Where compliment allows mutually beneficial results. Artists, for example, use compliments to create harmony and visual power.
Second we must wield these forces with great intent toward a goal. Having a vision is a must for success. More than anything, we have to prepare to work the energy.
Let us look at symbols of complimentary forces that are in common use to most of us. These are in simplicity masculine and feminine in nature. Contemplate how these are used together to build and create, how united they are in purpose, and futile they can be alone.
The cauldron and spoon, mortar and pestle , cloth and needle , earth and spade, all symbolize both aspects needed for creation- masculine and feminine . The Feminine is the womb, the place where things catalyze and form. It is here we place our seeds our hopes. This is a place of tolerance, acceptance, and vulnerability.
Out of the womb pours, grows, and is born the product of our will - the glorified, triumphant, and crowning achievement. Often it is the feminine or the masculine that are acknowledged for the success, and rarely both. Even the most hardened athlete had to tolerate, accept, and be vulnerable to his coaches training in order to develop and nourish his art.
However, the womb must be penetrated before this potential is realized. This penetration can be harsh and in the form of truth, hard work, and the laborious usurping of what was. It often causes suffering and grieving. This requires intolerance, bluntness, and sometimes brute force. This is especially true when roting out injustices, judgment and egocentricity.
In the end however, the effort must be handed over to the potentiality that is only born of taking risk and being vulnerable. The beauty of those who work to achieve the pinnacle of all forces with in them is unmistakable. Some in history have achieved apotheosis status, which proves to all that we too may rise towards embodiment of the goddess and god!
